Ephemerality's Last Light

18 Exposure+HDR, 50mm lens (occasionally) with 2xCPL / ND filters, focus adjusted during some exposures, and ISOs on the better side of 400
2nd Revision, fixed some distracting elements and color-corrected for Nikon's infamous magenta haze.

Magic Behind the Curtains

Yeah, I wasn't kidding when I said this was one of the most complex compositions I've ever done.

Isolated Foreground + Blend Mask
The foreground was isolated using the focal variance filtering method discussed in my previous post, giving us a nice alpha-blended mask. Since these shots were done on a tripod and the foreground was relatively close, the error between exposures was small enough to allow the extraction of detail I've striven for in earlier shots.

Extracted Sky with HDR Highlights, used for the Bloom layer.

Fastest exposure combined with a horrific stack of ND filters gave a nice exposure of the sun, which was then unfocused in several exposures, the result of which was multiplied by the focused one (producing the rays seen above)
